That nest was very protected from any cat or other predators! Now we don’t have feral cats running around here, we used to, but eventually they fall prey to a larger wild predator.

That is unfortunate, all those fava beans eaten by rodents. Sometimes I hate that neighbor’s cats are walking around my garden. But at times like these, I am actually happy to have them there.
You garden seems very productive, with all those vegetables and herbs you harvested.

It seems that every time we get a good amount of rain in the winter the rodent population increases. Your woodrat is too funny, 50 feet of twain and a glove!

I am sorry for your strawberry plants, yes better than car wiring, but still…

Today I spotted my garden twine, the end of it had been pulled out of the roll and through the fence and out and around and into a cozy little spot. I started pulling on the twine, and pulling, and pulling . . . A wood rat had gathered about 50 feet of it into its nest, along with a garden glove and a couple hundred acorns, some trash and lots of twigs and dried grass. There seems to be a population explosion this spring and all of them are hungry. They started eating my strawberry plants. I started putting out traps and have nabbed about 10 of them in the last 10 days. And one of the cats is helping also, I don’t know how many he has caught. Last year they started to eat the wiring in one of my neighbor’s cars, I guess I should consider myself lucky, strawberry plants (and garden gloves) are easier to replace.

Well, at least the weather has improved lately!

Here’s sending you some warm, tomato thoughts. Ah I think if I found that fava bean stash, my first thoughts would be cute and my second thoughts… no I like to share as long as the animal is sharing, we can both enjoy the garden.
